What does "Family" mean?

It it simply blood relatives? Or, can it be the extended version?
There are those in this world who are such good friends, we think of them as if they were family.

We know they can be depended upon, no matter what. We know they will always **be there** when needed.
Having someone that "true" is a stroke of good fortune, but with it comes responsiblity. We must be there for them also.
Even when they don't ask for it. Some people have a very hard time asking for help when needed.
We recognize that and jump in to assist when we see the problem.
Today's photo? A tender black and white example of *all generations*, each helping and needing and caring. Genetics aside, the people upon which we depend.
********
Merci, mes amis.

The Half Moon Waltz

Looking up the other night, always a good thing to do, I realized that the moon, *our* moon is our nearest celestial friend. It is so close and so filled with mystery and that sense of Romance. Part of its poetic allure is that we all share it - no matter where you live. Europe? North America? Asia? The Moon is yours, since childhood, and mine too.

It also comes in varieties, including the half moon shown here. Representing, perhaps, all those without a partner in life. Even putting aside la tristesse, la recherche, soupir s'échappant dans l'air de nuit… even aside from all the eternal half moon waltz, it is a gorgeous companion with moods and quirks. We see it, even when it is covered with clouds. We can see it with our inner eye, with our heart, with our longings. In Shanghai, in Lima, in my sweet La Rochelle, France; we see it. It sees us. More work for her, mother moon; all this human activity to ponder? She smiles, she will never be bored. Nor will we.

SETTING A MOOD, PART II

The Art of Présentation
The French style of creating a "painting on a plate." It increases the joy of being at the Table.
It accentuates the meal being served: be it hors d'oeuvres, main course, or dessert.
Today we take a look at a very eye-appealing dessert.

In this case, it is a plate served at a famous Salon de Thé in Paris.
The tea itself seems to be an herb tea, reddish in tone. It does, in its subtle way, complete the pink portrait of the pastries.
Quelle Présentation! Note the tiny edible rose creations attached to the sugar cubes. Probably marzipan.

Setting a Mood

Cheese and....
almost anything really. French bread, obviously!
It pairs with wine that is certain. Or with fruit. It is such a huge part of the culture one cannot imagine France without it.
Setting a mood, being at the table, is such a joy that the French spend a great amount of the day either thinking about it, shopping for it, preparing it, and *especially* being at the table as time slips away and away. The combination of cheese and, specifically, red wine is legendary. If you enter that culture you will find that the charm of this tradition rubs off on you. It's difficult to resist.

Enjoying all this outdoors just adds to the magic. The countryside, a soft breeze in Provence, a fig tree... life seems to stretch out and lose its rough edges. Un après-midi paresseux glisse dans, le croient ou pas, l'entretien de la musique et la poésie et quelqu'un indiqueront, "que ferons-nous pour le dîner?"
"What," someone will ask, "should we make for dinner?"
And -- la joie de la vie continues. And continues even in your mind. Even now.

WHY DO THEY LIKE ME SO MUCH??
I don't know but the photo shows such devotion and deep attraction.
Peut-être c'est mon charme indéniable, oui?
Yes, that must be it. Alors...

Also, it is a sign of Spring. It, mes chers amis, is a good omen. Rejoice. We might thank God, or simply get out some Champagne and raise our glasses
"Santé!" That's French; in English?
"Quack-quack!"

And... why not??
FRANCE has now and had in the past some of the great poets and writers in history. It is only fitting that here, on this site - we do some poetry - Juste de temps en temps… ça va?
Rainbow
The colorful arc quietly proud preceded by grayish rain softly peering over a cloud winning through the Dark a sky poem's sweet Refrain
His painting? Maybe yes but we wonder and we guess Who creates? Who decides? The master artist, is it God above? or the human soul who looks and Loves?
************ Week-end heureux mes chers amis.

Bonjour, I am an American in Paris! Well, spiritually, at least - I have lived there in the past and will again soon. This blog willl be about people anywhere - who like all things French. The food, the culture, the Cafes, the history, - well, the entire French experience. If you fit the above description - put a note here as a Comment. We can exchange ideas here and exchange dreams of what we wish to find. OK?
J'espère vous rencontrer bientôt. Et, pourquoi pas ma chère dame?
